Head of Creative Responsibility, Penguin Books
Siena Parker is Head of Creative Responsibility at Penguin Books, the UK’s largest publisher.
While other companies talk about corporate responsibility, Penguin has coined the term Creative Responsibility – putting creativity at the heart of their approach. Siena joined Penguin in 2015 from brewer Heineken as the publisher’s first ever dedicated CR hire. She established a ‘Creative Responsibility manifesto’ for the company which set out a series of goals to the year 2020 across four priority areas: Reading, Community, Inclusion and Sustainability.
Since then key achievements have included: establishing an award-winning programme to discover and publish new writers from under-represented communities; piloting an innovative approach to the primary school library crisis; and Penguin Talks which takes authors into secondary schools to talk to young people about issues which matter to them, including Michelle Obama on the power of education.
